Psychotherapy is the chance to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Its aim is to explore at the distressing parts of your life, establish goals, and have a safe and trusting environment for you to explore, transform, and grow from the distress. It has the ability to build upon your existing strengths and be tailored to meet your specific needs and goals.

The therapeutic relationship is a partnership, and I’m committed to working collaboratively to support positive change and emotional growth. My approach is a blend of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and evidence-based techniques. I am passionate about creating a strong therapeutic alliance with you, where we can explore your strengths and collaborate on finding solutions together, in a judgement-free environment. My goal is to give you a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions in our sessions.

My therapy style is conversational, compassionate and collaborative. In the early stages of our sessions, we will use traditional talk therapy and then tailor the approach based on your needs. I use neuroscience-informed techniques like Mindfulness and Somatic exercises. I also use Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, EMDR and Internal Family Systems (Parts Work) as methods of processing trauma.

Rachel Hammerton is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. She is passionate about working with individuals and couples facing depression, anxiety, trauma and abuse, low self-esteem, life transitions, relationship issues and more.

She creates a trusting and safe environment for you to explore and be curious about your well-being. She believes in a client-centred approach and tailoring sessions to meet individual clients’ needs and goals. She draws from CBT, ACT, DBT, and somatic therapy principles in order to make therapy as meaningful and impactful to clients as possible.
